The Diploma in Clear Aligner Therapy course aims to teach the general dentist how to use clear aligner therapy as a tool to improve the treatment outcomes in all aspects of their general dental practice, including aesthetic, periodontal and restorative care. The tutors are an Invisalign Platinum Elite Doctor, clinical speaker and a post-graduate tutor plus one of Europe's most experienced Invisalign providers, with over 1,750 cases completed to date.   • Understand orthodontic anatomy and classification.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treatment plan the orthodontic patient suitable for clear aligner therapy.
  • Understand the biomechanical principles of tooth movement.
  • Be able to interpret clinical imagery in orthodontic alignment.
  • Understand the treatment process of clear-aligner therapy and materials used.
  • Know the components of the clear aligner therapy and materials used.
  • Appreciate different treatment protocols for different malocclusions.
  • Know how to use computer-assisted technology in clear aesthetic orthodontic alignment. 

Utilise the learning outcomes above to create a portfolio of clinical cases. Mentorship will be provided for case assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, active treatment, finishing, and retention.

OVERVIEW 

The first term is designed to align all students in the theoretical knowledge and the methodology of approaching orthodontics as a general dentist. This high level education on theory and standardised protocol allows the class to develop cohesively through peer to peer interaction essential for the learning objectives. Tuition takes place through peer to peer interaction essential for the learning objectives. Tuition takes place through a 20 hour self-guided learning module; and a series of live webinars on orthodontic assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and consent. Students have access to an expert-led Forum to receive feedback from course tutors on their individual cases. This service continues throughout the programme.

 AIM(S) 

To provide students with the advanced theoretical and clinical knowledge necessary to undertake the practical and clinical training offered in the later terms of the programme

  • Indications of orthodontics in aesthetic dentistry.
  • Treatment planning in orthodontics and integrating orthodontics into an aesthetic treatment plan.
  • Stability and retention in orthodontics -relevant literature review and recommended guideline. 
  • Orthodontic assessment and the ortho-restorative assessment relevant to the general dentist.
  •  Functional occlusion and its application in orthodontics.

8 Hours of Online Webinars 

Introduction to SAFE course programme. 

Webinar: Live Q & A 8 Sessions, each of 1 hour duration and running weekly to allow reflective learning of the online modules. These are open topic webinars based on the 20 hours online learning education on the educational platform.

OVERVIEW 

This unit will focus on the application of the principles learnt in Term 1. It will include a series of online workshops, including small group activities. Topics will include Assessment; Diagnosis and Treatment Planning; Consent and Ethical Sales; Functional Occlusion; and ClinCheck modifications. Online Case Cafes and Case Presentation sessions will provide direct teaching on your own cases, at a level suitable for your experience. There will also be online presentation of clinical cases and protocols for different malocclusions via live webinars. The clinical cases will be integrated with Q & A sessions, critical and recommended reading, and thought-share elements. 

AIM(S)

Students will acquire the practical skills to use clear-aligner therapy in orthodontic treatment, and learn how to apply them to clinical cases of increasing complexity. Practical Training and Clinical Application One webinar every week, intercalated by Q&A Sessions and complimented by critical and recommended reading.

OVERVIEW

This highly interactive unit, encourages students to share with colleagues and tutors their own clinical cases. Students will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on the clinical cases they intend to present as part of their final assessment. There is also the option of attending a Residential programme (at extra cost), which will include sessions on advanced integration of aligner therapy with restorative and surgical treatments and a practical skills day on composite bonding techniques. Attendance at this Residential is not a requirement for passing the Diploma.

To provide the students with a professional network of colleagues and mentors to critically support and advise the application of the skills learned in unit 2.

The programme incorporates a variety of flexible learning channels. 

  • Webinars and online workshops are delivered live to enable students to ask questions during the presentation. 
  • Recording is done during each sessions for students who are unable to attend the session and for revision purposes. 
  • Learners have access to one-one tutoring throughout the course via an online forum, with a response from their tutor within 48 hours. 
  • Small group sessions are arranged in terms 2 and 3 for discussion of clinical cases or any other issue related to the course. This enables students to learn from their own cases and also benefit from seeing cases belonging to fellow students thus providing a great deal of clinical experience of Clear Aligner Therapy in a relatively short space of time. 
  • Case presentation and literature reading exercises are included in term 1.

Dr. Toy opened his first practice in Loughborough in 1984. A purpose built facility designed to deliver Health Cultivation preventative care on the NHS to local people. Within 3 years I had a team including Treatment Coordinators and extended-duties dental nurses and we were winning awards for our NHS prevention service. I had also become a Vocational Trainer - my first experience of helping young dentists.

Entrants must satisfy the following entry requirements: 

  • Normally at least two years’ demonstrable postgraduate clinical experience in clinical practice as a qualified dental practitioner
  • Current registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC) or equivalent in another country
  • Evidence of appropriate professional liability insurance/Medico-legal indemnity insurance as may be required for the designated clinical setting at an appropriate level
  • Access to clinical practice setting that gives enough exposure to the relevant area of clinical specialism
